Here are some people using music as a ministry or a public service. There are several
wonderful individuals and organizations who are using music to help people. I would
like to mention some of these here:
-
Judy Frankel of San Francisco has
made a lifetime career of finding and recording Sephardic Jewish music. It is great
that she is causing this tradition to be documented before it is lost in the blending
of cultures that seems to be happening today.
-
Mimi Fariña [Joan Baez's sister (1945–2001)] has, for many years, run an
organization in the Bay Area called Bread and
Roses. They bring music and other performing arts to people isolated in Bay Area
institutions. The organization continues without Mimi
-
A local performer in Southern California,
Mary Rice Hopkins, tours all over the world playing her Christian music. She is
especially good with children.
-
Bob Rowe runs Renaissance
Enterprises in Michigan that brings his music to people in old-age homes and
other institutions. He sells his albums from this site. He has a great voice and has
even covered Judy Collins's "Come Rejoice" on his Christmas album. He also has
tributes to Judy Collins and Joan Baez on his "Tributes" page. Send Bob Rowe email.
